PARALYSIS

paralysis

Paralysis is a loss of muscle function for one or more muscles. Paralysis can be accompanied by a loss of feeling (sensory loss) in the affected area if there is sensory damage as well as motor. paralysis of all muscles is total paralysis, as may occur in cases of botulism. A paralysis accompanied by involuntary tremors is usually called "palsy".

Cause Temporary paralysis occurs because of dysfunction created in the genes that control certain functions in the muscle membrane.
In most cases, this gene is passed down from another family member. About 50% of women who carry the gene mutation show no symptoms at all.
However, people who do not show signs can still pass on the gene. “Each child of an affected parent has a 50% chance of inheriting the gene mutation.”
The triggers that most often cause the temporary paralysis to occur include:

symptoms of a paralysis usually, occur suddenly. The type of symptoms experienced will depend on what area of the brain is affected.
The areas of the brain that control function on one side of the body is often located on the opposite side of the brain.
Therefore, lack of blood to one side of the brain can often result in signs and symptoms on the opposite side of the body.
Common initial symptoms of paralysis include:
·       Sudden numbness, paralysis or weakness of an arm, leg or side of the fac

·       Loss of consciousness
·       Confusion
·       Memory loss
·       Loss of balance or coordination
·       Poor balance and dizziness
·       Severe headache
·       Slurred or abnormal speech
·       Impairment or loss of vision.
Prevention Reducing the number of controllable risk factors is the best way to prevent  paralysis
This can include:
·       Stopping smoking
·       Losing weight
·       Eating a balanced diet low in sodium and saturated and trans fat
·       Moderating alcohol intake (no more than 2 small drinks per day)
·       Exercising regularly in order to stay physically fit
·       Maintaining good control of existing medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
If discovered prior to a stroke, some medical conditions may be repaired surgically in order to prevent a stroke occurring in the first place.
